Mitosis is pretty

Here are some beautiful images of dividing cells. Cells undergo a division process called mitosis which consists of interphase stages when it's growing (G1 and G2), synthesis phase (S) when it is multiplying its DNA, and mitosis (M) when it divides into two cells. We do movies of this in my lab in a live fly embryo when it is dividing all its cells equally in the beginning of its life. The colors come from the fact that we label various molecules in the cells with fluorescent dyes. I am actually currently learning about the cool microscopy techniques in my microscopy class in order to hopefully get such beautiful images in the future!
